Bardonecchia

A traditional, Italian border town of great character, Bardonecchia is situated in one of the sunniest valleys in the Alps, at a height of 1300m. It is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and pine woods with three ski areas covering an amazing network of 140 kms of marked piste. Non-skiers will enjoy browsing around the town's numerous shops and weekly market or taking advantage of its excellent sports and leisure facilities.

The ski areas of Melezet and Colomion are linked by a series of magnificent long red and blue runs with several blacks to get the blood racing. The Fisi 50 from Colomion is a World Cup race run and will also be an Olimpic run in 2006.

At the top of Colomion the Telemark Bar is a popular watering hole and serves delicious pancakes. Take the free ski bus to the Jafferau area where a long double chairlift rises to 1922m and a spacious mountain restaurant provides excellent fare before the skier proceeds to the top station at 2750m. From here there are long, wide, open slopes and exhilarating runs down to the valley.

Excellent off-piste skiing plus no less than six black runs equals plenty of activity for the more experienced skier. High on Jafferau there are wide open bowls with bumps, jumps and gullies above the treeline. Heli skiing is available for off-piste skiing behind Melezet. Several runs are left unpisted to become mogul fields.
